Meet The Midwives

Kari Riley (she/her)

CPM, LDM, LM

~Primary Midwife~

In 2007 Kari became a DONA (Doulas of North America) certified doula. From 2007-2014 Kari had 4 children of her own and supported women during 80+ births as a Doula. Wanting to expand her skills, she became certified through ICEA (International Childbirth Education Association) as a Childbirth Educator. She taught classes both in people's homes and in the hospital. In 2014 she enrolled in the Midwives College of Utah where she earned her degree in Midwifery. During her time of schooling and training she attended another 70+ births as a midwifery student.

She has had the opportunity to work in home, hospital, and birth center settings under the supervision of many highly experienced and respectable Certified Professional Midwives and Certified Nurse Midwives in Oregon. She graduated from the Midwives College of Utah and has earned the credential of Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through a National Organization called the National Registry of Midwives (NARM). She is also a Licensed Direct-Entry Midwife (LDM) through the state of Oregon and a Licensed Midwife (LM) in Washington.

After receiving her certification and licensure, she started a steady practice in Central Oregon. Portland, however, never stopped being her home and so her practice was born here. Connection with the families she serves is one of the greatest joys in her work. She considers it a privilege to watch families grow. Protecting and holding that space for people is a huge part of her midwifery practice.

Angela and Kari each have their own practices but have chosen to support each other by becoming "sister practices". Which means that they support each other when there is some planned or unplanned reason that another midwife may be needed.

Angela Truby (she/her)

CPM, LDM, LM

~Backup Primary Midwife~

She began her journey into midwifery with the beautiful and empowering home waterbirth of her first daughter in 2000. She began attending births as a labor doula, quickly built a thriving practice, and soon realized what she loved most of all was the joy of serving people giving birth in the sanctuary of their own homes.

With the support of her husband, they moved across the country to Portland, where she attended Birthingway College of Midwifery, earning her Bachelor of Science in Midwifery degree after 4 years of study and 2 years of apprenticeship at Alma Midwifery.

After becoming a Certified Professional Midwife in 2009 she continued serving as an Alma Midwife, where she gained valuable experience working with a diverse range of families over the next 3 years. Finally, in 2012 she founded Glow Midwifery, bringing her dream of having her own home birth practice to fruition! Over the past 10 years as Primary Midwife of Glow Midwifery she has served hundreds of families, and now has attended the births of more than 600 babies. She is currently a licensed midwife in Oregon and Washington, and love serving families of all kinds!

When she is not “catching babies,” as midwives like to say, she loves spending time with her husband and two beautiful, spirited daughters. She also finds great pleasure in making music, and loves to sing in a range of musical styles, performs with the Christmas Revels cast, and plays the clawhammer banjo.
